Minnesota has added another commitment to its 2022 recruiting class.

Friday, the Golden Gophers received a verbal pledge from 3-star Texas running back Zach Evans. He had received 16 offers on the trail, picking Minnesota over other Power 5 programs like Arizona State, Iowa, Kansas, Notre Dame, Texas and Utah. Evans made his announcement with a post on Twitter.

“My mind is made,” Evans said. “I will be committing to the University of Minnesota. #GoGophers #RTB”

Visiting the University of Minnesota campus was apparently the nudge Evans needed to commit to the program. He was on campus on Friday, making his decision public on the same day.

Per 247Sports, Evans ranks as one of the Top 50 running backs in the 2022 recruiting class and is one of the Top 100 overall players out of the talent-rich state of Texas. He’s racked up some big numbers at the high school level at Rockwall-Heath the past two seasons.

In 2020, Evans rushed for 1,220 yards and 15 touchdowns on 199 carries while also totaling 84 yards on 8 receptions. The year before, he was credited with 794 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns on 135 touches.

Evans is currently the second-highest-ranked prospect in the Gophers’ 2022 class, behind 4-star defensive lineman Trey Bixby. Minnesota has seven verbal pledges and ranks No. 8 in the B1G and No. 39 nationally.
