Minnesota may not have won the typical six games to qualify for a college football bowl game, but the Golden Gophers sure did prove that they are the current kings when it comes to winning in the postseason on Tuesday.

PJ Fleck’s squad took down Bowling Green by a score of 30-24 in the Quick Lane Bowl. Darius Taylor’s 35-carry, 208-yard performance stole the show, and the win made it seven straight bowl victories for the Golden Gophers.

The streak began with another win in the Quick Lane Bowl, this time over Central Michigan in 2015. Minnesota then took down Washington State in the Holiday Bowl in 2016, went back to the Quick Lane Bowl to take down Georgia Tech in 2018 and then beat Auburn in the 2020 Outback Bowl.

Fleck and Co. have reeled off three straight bowl wins in the past three years, beginning with an 18-6 win over West Virginia in the 2021 Guaranteed Rate Bowl. The streak continued with a 28-20 victory over Syracuse last season and then capped off by the latest win over BGSU.

Fleck is 5-0 in bowl games and 49-34 overall as head coach of Minnesota. This was the first time since 2017 (his inaugural campaign) that the Gophers finished below .500, not counting the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
