Minnesota has added a new member to its defensive staff headed into the 2019 season.

Jim Panagos is expected to become the new defensive line coach for the Golden Gophers, according to a report from the Pioneer Press. Panagos spent the past two seasons at Temple under head coach Geoff Collins.

Panagos was set to join Collins at Georgia Tech, but changed direction when he received an offer from Minnesota. He replaces former defensive line coach Marcus West, who took a job at Charlotte.

In addition to working at Temple, Panagos worked at Pitt, Rutgers and UCF. He and head coach P.J. Fleck served on the same staff at Rutgers.

Minnesota made significant defensive changes during the 2018 season, firing defensive coordinator Robb Smith in the final month of the year. Joe Rossi filled in on an interim basis but earned the permanent job after the Gophers won three of their final four games, including a victory over Georgia Tech in the Quick Lane Bowl.

The Gophers finished the season 7-6.
