Minnesota beats out programs from ACC, Pac-12 to land commitment from sought-after 2024 Virginia DB

Minnesota has a new commitment in its 2024 recruiting class. The Gophers beat out teams from the ACC and Pac-12 to land Zahir Rainer, a defensive back from Richmond, Virginia.
A Trinity Episcopal School standout, Rainer is listed at 5-10, 185 pounds. On the 247Sports composite rankings, Rainer is rated 3-stars, the No. 19 Virginia product, No. 66 safety and No. 771 prospect overall nationally in the 2024 recruiting class.
Rainer has picked up 31 scholarship offers during his recruitment. He narrowed that down to a final 7 of Minnesota, Duke, North Carolina, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
He announced his Gophers commitment Thursday in a live ceremony.
