Minnesota community raises over $15K after passing of hoops star Dupree McBrayer's mother
Tragedy hit the Minnesota athletic community recently, as the mother of Gophers basketball star Dupree McBrayer passed away after her battle with cancer.
In the days after Tayra McFarlane passed away, the Gophers community banded together and showed their support for McBrayer, and GoFundMe page was established to help raise funds for McFarlane’s funeral. Donations have exceeded $15,000 dollars.
Among the supporters were head basketball coach Richard Pitino and head football coach P.J. Fleck. Pitino and his wife Jill contributed $5,000 to the cause and Fleck and his wife have chipped in $800.
Coach Pitino and Fleck contributed a large sum of money towards the funeral costs for Dupree’s mom. Just another example of how much of a family the Gopher community is. I love this school. pic.twitter.com/uZNnmay21H

McBrayer, who played in Minnesota’s game against Nebraska just a few days after his mother’s passing, is overwhelmed with joy from the support. He issued a thank you on Twitter.
“Tears of joy coming down my face right,” McBrayer said. “Thank you Gopher Nation, my family and I appreciate you all!”
