A Minnesota defensive back has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal after one season with the program.

On Monday, Nathan Seward announced his intention to transfer from the school and pursue opportunities elsewhere. He was with the Golden Gophers for only the 2020 season before deciding to look at other options.

“I want to thank Coach Fleck for allowing me the opportunity to play at the University of Minnesota,” Seward wrote. “Also thank you (to) the rest of the Minnesota football staff and faculty for pushing me day in and day out.

“After long conversations and prayers with my family I’ve made the decision to enter the Transfer Portal with two years of Eligibility left.”

Seward, a 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back out of Madison, Wisconsin, did not see any game action during the 2020 season for the Gophers. He transferred into Minnesota after spending the past two seasons at North Dakota State College of Science. He tallied 59 tackles, 17 pass break-ups and 8 interceptions.

Seward’s announcement comes a little more than a week after Minnesota’s spring game.
