The Golden Gophers are losing one player to transfer, this time to a division opponent.

Rey Estes is a defensive back who was a part of PJ Fleck’s original recruiting class at Minnesota. He redshirted as a freshman in 2017 before appearing in one game this season. He did not record any stats with the Gophers.

Friday evening, Estes shared a post to his Instagram account with the Illinois “I,” saying he was headed home. Estes was a dual-threat QB in high school out of East St. Louis. Listed as a 3-star ATH prospect on 247 Sports, he made the switch to DB while with the Gophers.
