The Gophers will be losing one of their DEs to the transfer portal.

On Thursday, Austin Booker announced via Twitter that he would be officially be entering the transfer portal. The DE thanked his teammates and coaches before breaking the news. Booker also provided a highlight reel, featuring words of praise from head coach PJ Fleck and noting his 3.1 GPA and 4 years of eligibility remaining.

Booker was a consensus three star recruit when he signed with Minnesota in 2020. He was ranked as the No. 31 strong-side defensive end in the nation and the No. 9 overall recruit in Indiana. Booker chose the Gophers over a multitude of other schools that made offers, including Michigan State, Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa.

Booker didn’t see any action during is freshman year, but made it to the field 6 times this year. In Minnesota’s Week 3 win over Colorado, Booker made his debut and collected a tackle for loss in the matchup.
