Minnesota defensive lineman Royal Silver has left the football program for medical reasons, according to a report.
The Pioneer Press reported Tuesday that Silver had parted ways with the team dur to medical issues. Those concerns were not specified in the report. Silver was entering his senior season with the Golden Gophers.
Silver played in 11 games in 2018, recorded 13 tackles and two stops for loss. His last appearance came in Minnesota’s Quick Lane Bowl victory over Georgia Tech.
Silver was a member of P.J. Fleck’s first recruiting class at Minnesota in 2017. He transferred from Iowa Western Community College and used a redshirt season in his first year.
Minnesota also lost defensive tackle O.J. Smith, who decided to forgo his final season in Minneapolis and pursue the NFL Draft.
