Minnesota added to its 2022 recruiting class on Thursday night.

The Golden Gophers got a commitment from under-the-radar TE prospect Spencer Alvarez.

Here’s his announcement:

“Wasn’t a hard choice because of how the coaching staff has made me feel at home in their program and trusting in me enough to offer me a scholarship while rehabbing a torn ACL,” Alvarez wrote in the announcement. “So, I would like to announce my commitment to the University of Minnesota.”

Alvarez hails from Minneapolis and attends Columbia Heights Senior High School. He’s listed at 6-foot-7, 245 pounds.

He’s a 2-star prospect according to 247Sports, but perhaps this commitment will get him on the map. The Gophers are Alvarez’s first major scholarship offer, according to 247Sports.

Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck acknowledged his commitment:

Minnesota now has six commitments in the class of 2022. The class ranks No. 39 nationally and No. 8 in the Big Ten, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
