Gopher fans have rowed their boats to the ticket office.

Minnesota’s football program has sold approximately 1,000 more season tickets since the P.J. Fleck was hired in January, according to Andy Greder of TwinCities.com. This is a welcomed increase for the athletic department, which has season a decline in sales over the past two years.

Per Greder’s report, Minnesota’s season ticket sales dropped from 27,885 in 2015 to 22,792 before the 2016 season kicked off and continued to decline.

Filling TCF Bank Stadium and growing the support for Gophers football has been a focal point for Fleck since his arrival, saying he’d like to play in front of a full venue on Saturdays.

“We’ve got to work on our attendance,” he said. “We’ve got to work on different things that we can continue to make happen over the course of the years to make this a very, very important event and not just like, ‘OK, I can go to the spring game or not.’ You have to be at the spring game. I think we will create that over time.”

The Fleck hire by AD Mark Coyle was a well-received decision, especially after the young head coach completely turned around Western Michigan. Last year, the Broncos finished the regular season undefeated, claimed a MAC championship and made an appearance in the Cotton Bowl.

Minnesota kicks off the season on Aug. 31 against Buffalo in TCF Bank Stadium.
