One of Minnesota’s key returners has sustained a serious knee injury.

According to a statement shared Thursday, junior forward Isaiah Ihnen has sustained a season-ending knee injury during summer practices.

“We are obviously disappointed for Isaiah, as he had made great strides not only as a player, but also as a leader this summer,” said head coach Ben Johnson.

It has been a tumultuous offseason for the Gophers and Ihnen was a holdover for the program to try and build around. He appeared in all 29 games (three starts) during the 2020-21 campaign.

The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 2.8 points and 2.4 rebounds as a sophomore while shooting 54% from inside the three-point line. Hopefully, Ihnen is able to rebound quickly from this setback.
