Minnesota went overseas to land its latest commitment.

Sunday, cornerback Richard Agyekum announced his verbal pledge to the Golden Gophers over Twitter. A native of Netherlands, the versatile cornerback turned some heads during a football camp at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia recently.

Agyekum is fresh off a visit to Minnesota. He chose the Gophers over offers from Rutgers, Penn State and Cincinnati.

“After a great talk with (Coach P.J. Fleck), (Coach Rod Chance) (Coach Joe Harasymiak) I am proud to announce that I commit to the University of Minnesota,” Agyekum wrote.

Agyekum will be a member of Minnesota’s 2020 recruiting class. He currently does not have any ratings by 247Sports.

While he’s listed as a cornerback, Agyekum also has experience returning punts and playing receiver, as well. He will be an athletic and versatile addition to Minnesota’s class.

Currently, Minnesota’s 2020 recruiting class ranks 43rd nationally and eighth in the B1G. The Gophers have eight players committed in the class.
