Minnesota 2022 basketball commit and 3-star shooting guard Braeden Carrington has been presented with the state’s prestigious Mr. Basketball award for the 2021-22 high school hoops season. The announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon.

Carrington helped lead Park Center to a state championship this past season. He is the first Gophers commit to claim the Minnesota Mr. Basketball honor since Amir Coffey in 2016.

Carrington is a 6-foot-3 shooting guard who ranks as one of the Top 250 overall talents in the 2022 recruiting class. He’s also a Top 10 prospect out of Minnesota. During the recruiting process, he picked the Gophers over offers from Colorado, Florida, Missouri, Seton Hall and Xavier.

Ben Johnson is looking to put a further emphasis on Minnesota’s in-state recruiting. He’s landed a good one with Carrington.

Minnesota ended the first year of the Johnson era with a 13-17 record and a 4-16 mark in the B1G, finishing last in the B1G. There’s a good chance Carrington could come in and immediately carve out a role with the Golden Gophers.
