Minnesota basketball is looking to put together its 2022 recruiting class, and one prospect is still considering the Gophers after cutting down his list.

The player is Miles Byrd, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard out of Stockton, California. He unveiled his top 8 schools Saturday afternoon, keeping Minnesota in the running with St. Mary’s, Washington, Villanova, Washington, Colorado State, and others.

Byrd discussed his top 8 with Hoop Scoop Media, sharing what stood out to him about the Gophers:

“Minnesota is a another school who plays in a great conference that is known for having pros,” said Byrd. “Coach Ben Johnson and Coach Dave Thorson have made me feel like a priority since day one, and stayed on the phone with me to prove it instead of just saying it.”

The industry-generated composite rankings list Byrd as 3-star recruit and the No. 22 SG nationally for the cycle. However, 247 Sports rates Byrd as a 4-star prospect and the No. 98 player in the nation for 2022. Byrd ranks as the 163rd player nationally on the composite.
