Minnesota’s basketball team received a big addition to its roster on Sunday. Literally.

Former Drake star Liam Robbins, a 7-foot, 235-pound center, told 247Sports on Sunday that he has committed to Minnesota. The decision comes just one day after he entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

“I just wanted to see what my options were and to do that I had to put my name in the portal,” Robbins said. “Tons of schools reached out and I was overwhelmed and honored by it, but at the end of the day after talking to [Richard] Pitino last night and again this morning and doing a virtual tour, he showed me it was the best fit for me.”

Last season, Robbins averaged 14.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game at Drake, while shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor. As a freshman in the 2018-19 season, Robbins posted 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest.

Robbins helped lead Drake to the semifinal round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament last month, and was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 18 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3 blocks per game.

Minnesota ended last season with a 15-16 record.
