Minnesota kicker Emmit Carpenter set to play in Tropical Bowl following bowl game
The bowl season has gotten under way for many conference across the country, however, the Big Ten hasn’t begun just yet.
On Dec. 26, that will change when Minnesota plays Georgia Tech in the Quick Lane Bowl. However, that won’t be the final game that Golden Gophers kicker Emmit Carpenter participates in.
Carpenter said he accepted an invitation to the Tropical Bowl, which is set to take place on Jan. 13 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The game is made for seniors to play in and show out for NFL and other professional teams.
“I tell people I’m going to keep kicking until someone that gets paid a lot of money from the NFL tells me I can’t kick anymore,” Carpenter said. “I’ve had a crazy journey here of walking on and doing things the hard way.
“I’ve been working my way up to where I’m at in my career, so I don’t see why I can’t do the same journey and get my foot in the door in the NFL.”
This season, Carpenter has made 15-of-20 field goals. As a member of the Golden Gophers, he has made 51-of-64.
