P.J. Fleck and the Golden Gophers received some good news on Monday night.

Vic Viramontes, the top junior college dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 recruiting class, gave his commitment to Minnesota Monday, making the announcement via Twitter. He posted a message and several pictures with a “Row the Boat” backdrop.

Viramontes had seven offers on the table, with Minnesota being the only B1G program in the mix. He also had offers from Ole Miss, UNLV and Kansas.

Viramontes has been at Riverside (California) City College and posted some impressive numbers this past season. He passed or 1,868 yards and 22 touchdowns and added 1,346 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground. He will have three years of eligibility remaining for Minnesota.

The commitment comes at an excellent time for Minnesota, which is in desperate need of a quarterback after former starter Demry Croft announced he will be transferring from the program. The other Gophers quarterback, Conor Rhoda, has used his eligibility.

According to 247Sports, Viramontes is one of the top 20 junior college recruits for the 2018 class.
