Craig McDonald is heading home. The defensive back from Minneapolis is transferring from Auburn to Minnesota.

McDonald shared the news this weekend on his Twitter account.

McDonald spent 1 season at Auburn. He did not record any defensive statistics in the 2022 campaign.

McDonald is entering Year 4 of his college football career. Out of Minnehaha Academy, he was rated 3-stars, the No. 9 Minnesota recruit, No. 66 safety and No. 862 prospect overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite in the 2020 recruiting class. McDonald signed with Iowa State over offers from Minnesota, Iowa, Purdue, Wisconsin and Dartmouth.

In 2020, McDonald recorded 1 tackle as a freshman, making 4 appearances. The season does not count against his eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

McDonald will look to get back to his 2021 form. In his second season, McDonald played in all 13 games, making 3 starts. He logged 41 tackles and 2 interceptions.

McDonald’s limited action in 2022 allows him to take a redshirt for the season. He’ll begin his Minnesota career with 3 remaining seasons of eligibility.
