Minnesota’s 2023 recruiting class has taken a major hit.

Monday, the Golden Gophers lost a pledge from 4-star wide receiver Anthony Brown. The Springfield, Ohio prospect initially committed to PJ Fleck and the program in September 2021. Now, he’s reconsidering all of his options.

Brown released a statement on social media regarding his decision.

“I would like to thank the University of Minnesota for welcoming me with open arms,” he wrote. “It is after much consideration, thought and talking multiple times with my family that I’ve made the decision to decommit and now reopening my recruitment to all schools!”

Brown, ranked as the No. 36 receiver in the class and a Top 300 overall prospect per 247Sports composite rankings, has received nearly 20 offers on the recruiting trail. Other Power 5 programs to show interest include Boston College, Duke, Iowa State, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin and others.

Minnesota’s class in 2023 is now down to two verbal commitments.
