Want hype? You got it this week.

Minnesota, at 8-0, is hosting 8-0 Penn State. Nobody truly believes in the Golden Gophers. If they did, Minnesota would be ranked higher than No. 13, right? After all, Penn State is ranked No. 5.

People believe in the Nittany Lions.

Regardless, Minnesota is at home this week. P.J. Fleck, the Golden Gophers’ coach, can hear all the talk around campus about how big this upcoming game is. In fact, he can hear it from the national media as well.

During his appearance on 247Sports’ Notorious B1G podcast, he talked about the outside noise and how he and the Gophers are handling it:

“It’s a huge game,” Fleck said. “The reason it’s a huge game is because every game leading up to this game has been the biggest game and we told them it’s been the biggest game in this season’s history. Why because it’s the next one. And there is no difference in this game for the player perspective.

“Last week during the bye week we talked about all the things everyone else is going to talk about. How big of a game this is. Maybe the biggest game in TCF Bank history. One of the biggest games in Gopher football history. We know that. We talked about that all last week. What we do, bring all that noise in, we let our culture digest it and then spit it back out as hey we just have to be better today than we were yesterday and really do nothing different but do what we’re doing better. That’s what we have to continue focusing on, playing our best game Saturday.”

Minnesota-Penn State is scheduled for a noon ET kickoff at Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday. The game will be televised on ABC.
