Minnesota second-leading scorer and top assist man Payton Willis will miss Saturday’s game against Northwestern due to COVID-19 protocols. Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press reported the news.

Willis, who is playing more than 36 minutes per contest, is averaging 15.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Golden Gophers this year. He’s also averaging 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals.

The guard was outstanding in Minnesota’s 76-70 win over Penn State on Feb. 12, playing 40 minutes and posting a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists. In the last two losses to Ohio State and Penn State, Willis has scored just a total of 10 points and dished out 3 assists.

Center Eric Curry is also a game-time decision for Saturday’s game, suffering from flu-like symptoms. He’s averaging 8.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest.

Both Minnesota and Northwestern enter Saturday’s game looking to snap a two-game losing streak. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network.
