Minnesota is in the process of compiling a top-20 class under head coach P.J. Fleck. That 2023 recruiting class is also currently anchored by in-state linemen.

On Saturday, the Gophers added another, picking up a commitment from Greg Johnson. Johnson shared his announcement on Twitter:

“I would like to start off by thanking my family, who has been through this journey with me every step of the way,” wrote Johnson. “I want to especially thank my mom, because I would be absolutely nowhere without her.

“I’d like to thank Laker Nation as a whole for supporting me every step of the way. I’m beyond excited for the upcoming season, and being able to play with the guys I grew up with one last time. With that being said, I’d like to announce my commitment to continue my football and academic career at the University of Minnesota!”

Listed at 6-foot-5 and 280 lbs., the 247 Sports Composite Rankings have Johnson as a 3-star prospect. Johnson hails from Prior Lake, Minnesota and is the No. 5 prospect in the state for the cycle.

With Johnson’s commitment, Minnesota now holds pledges from 3 of the top 5 recruits in the state. The other two players are IOL Jerome Williams (No. 2 player out of Minnesota) and OT Reese Tripp (No. 4).

As things currently stand, Minnesota’s 2023 recruiting class ranks No. 19 nationally.
