Minnesota received some great news on Monday afternoon. The Golden Gophers landed a DL from Clemson via the transfer portal.

DL Darnell Jeffries has committed to play for the Gophers after transferring out of Clemson. Jeffries at Clemson played in 10 career games where he recorded 16 tackles, 6 of which were solo, 1 tackle for loss and half a sack.

This season Clemson was not as good as the Tigers have been in the past, winning 10 games and finishing the season 10-3 and 6-2 in ACC play. However, Dabo Swinney’s squad missed the ACC title game and the College Football Playoff. Clemson finished the season off with a win against Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl.

Minnesota had a nice season as the Gophers finished 9-4, winning its last 2 games against rival Wisconsin and West Virginia in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. The Gophers finished the season 6-3 in the B1G and 2nd in the B1G West.

Minnesota will love having a big DL to help the run defense next season, especially someone from Clemson. Minnesota opens the season on Thursday, Sept. 1, against New Mexico State.
