Minnesota football picked up a commitment out of the portal on Friday from a prospect out of Houston Baptist University.

The player is Kyler Baugh, a defensive lineman with two years of eligibility left to suit up for the Gophers. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 300 lbs, Baugh spent 3 seasons at HBU.

Baugh finished the 2021 season with 52 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 4.5 TFL. For his career, he has 104 tackles, 11 TFL and 5 sacks.

Baugh recently called the offer from Minnesota “a blessing” in comments to 247 Sports. He also reflected on his aspirations to play Power 5 football:

“I just decided to put my name into the portal as I wanted to what was best for my future,” Baugh explained. “I spoke with defensive line coach Brick Haley, defensive coordinator Joe Rossi and head coach PJ Fleck this morning about the offer. This offer is such a blessing. I’ve always had aspirations to play power-five football and I’m truly grateful that the University of Minnesota believes in my talent.”
