Minnesota players, fans take exception to Scott Frost's disparaging comments about 'Sloganeering'
The brewing rivalry with Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck and Nebraska’s Scott Frost took a step forward on Thursday.
While speaking at the podium at Big Ten Media Days, Frost gave his comments on “Sloganeering” and appeared to take a shot at Fleck for his “Row The Boat” mantra.
“I’m not into sloganeering,” Frost said. “I’m not into sloganeering. If the players need me to motivate them all the time or come up with a unique slogan to play harder, I probably don’t have the right players.
“I played for a coach at Nebraska in Coach Osborne … He didn’t need all the sayings and slogans. He just taught us the right way to do things, and we went to work. That’s what we need in our program.”
Don't expect any team slogans from Scott Frost.

While Frost didn’t mention Minnesota specifically, the Gophers seem to be interpreting this as a shot to them.
Senior defensive back Coney Durr took note:

Here’s former Minnesota cornerback Benjamin St. Juste:
I feel like bro always got something to say about us then get smacked😂

Minnesota has won the last two matchups in this series, including a 27-point blowout victory in 2019. Overall, Fleck is 3-1 against Nebraska (2-1 vs. Frost) with the lone loss coming in 2018.
Here’s more reaction to this exchange from fans and media:

PJ Fleck: Row the Boat. Ski-U-Mah. Go Gophers.
Mike Locksley: No BCEs. No bitching, complaining, or excuses.
Scott Frost: If we need slogans to get players to play harder, I don’t have the right players.

Based on some of the quotes I’ve read this morning, I’m all in on Scott Frost vs. PJ Fleck becoming the Brooks Koepka-Bryson DeChambeau dynamic of the Big Ten West.

How is PJ Fleck allowed to live rent free in so many people’s heads? #SkiUMah https://t.co/YZHnSrix6W

If this is a shot at Fleck (which it has to be), that’s laughable for a guy who hasn’t had a winning season and has 12 wins in 3 years in the BIG 10. #RTB https://t.co/H26Q0J1XgW
