The brewing rivalry with Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck and Nebraska’s Scott Frost took a step forward on Thursday.

While speaking at the podium at Big Ten Media Days, Frost gave his comments on “Sloganeering” and appeared to take a shot at Fleck for his “Row The Boat” mantra.

“I’m not into sloganeering,” Frost said. “I’m not into sloganeering. If the players need me to motivate them all the time or come up with a unique slogan to play harder, I probably don’t have the right players.

“I played for a coach at Nebraska in Coach Osborne … He didn’t need all the sayings and slogans. He just taught us the right way to do things, and we went to work. That’s what we need in our program.”

While Frost didn’t mention Minnesota specifically, the Gophers seem to be interpreting this as a shot to them.

Minnesota has won the last two matchups in this series, including a 27-point blowout victory in 2019. Overall, Fleck is 3-1 against Nebraska (2-1 vs. Frost) with the lone loss coming in 2018.
