Minnesota’s running back room is taking another hit. This time, the Gophers are watching a player explore his options outside the Twin Cities.

Rivals.com is reporting that Cameron Wiley has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal after spend 2 1/2 seasons with the Golden Gophers. He rushed for 215 yards and a touchdown during his time at Minnesota.

The news comes just a few days after Minnesota posted a 30-23 victory over Nebraska. The Gophers improved to 4-2 on the season and are 2-1 in B1G play.

Wiley was a 3-star member of Minnesota’s 2019 recruiting class out of Las Vegas. He committed to P.J. Fleck and the Gophers over offers from 12 other programs, including Arizona, BYU, Duke, Kansas, Oregon, TCU, Utah and Washington State.

The departure of Wiley is a significant hit to Minnesota’s running back room, which has already lost its top two rushers for the the season due to injury. Mohamed Ibrahim was injured in the season-opener against Ohio State and Trey Potts was taken to a nearby hospital in West Lafayette for an undisclosed medical issue following the team’s win over Purdue.

Last week, Bryce Williams stepped up in a big way, rushing for 127 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in Minnesota’s win over Nebraska. Mar’Keise Irving and Ky Thomas combined for 51 yards on 14 touches in the win, as well.

Wiley has taken just 6 handoffs this season for 4 yards. He is the second Gopher to enter the NCAA transfer portal recently, joining offensive lineman Curtis Dunlap Jr.
