Minnesota senior running back Shannon Brooks will not face charges for an accusation of domestic assault, according to the Pioneer Press.

“There is insufficient evidence to prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt,” city spokeswoman Sarah McKenzie wrote in an email.

On Oct. 14, Brooks was arrested and held overnight on the suspicion of fifth-degree misdemeanor domestic assault of his male roommate at their Minneapolis apartment. Though the Minneapolis police report did not list injuries for Brooks’ 22-year-old roommate, coach P.J. Fleck made the decision to was suspend him for the Gophers’ 53-28 loss to Nebraska on Oct. 20.

After consulting with university president Eric Kaler, athletics director Mark Coyle, and the university’s office of general counsel, Fleck lifted Brooks’ suspension, and he made his season debut in a 38-31 win over Indiana, where he rushed 22 times for 154 yards and a touchdown. However, he suffered a right knee injury in the fourth quarter against the Hoosiers and is expected to be sidelined this weekend for the Gophers’ game against Illinois.

Brooks was shelved the first six games of the season, recovering from a torn ACL suffered during winter workouts this past offseason. He has 2,195 all-purpose yards and 20 touchdowns in his four-year career with Minnesota.
