If there’s a team that’s tough to get a gauge on in 2021, it’s Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers had a historically good season in 2019 and then was one of the nation’s biggest flops in 2020. As Minnesota opens up camp, the group is exuding confidence. Not a shocking fact based on the fact that this group is led by PJ Fleck.

The team marked the start of fall camp with a hype video:

Normally, Minnesota get a chance to get its proverbial toes wet in the opener against an FCS program. That’s not the case in 2021. The Golden Gophers have the beyond difficult task of playing Ohio State in the opener at home.

One thing in Minnesota’s favor is the fact that there’s a lot of reloading for the Buckeyes to do. This starts at quarterback with Justin Fields. But as Fleck mentioned, the Buckeyes certainly aren’t rebuilding.

So far, Fleck has had plenty to say about his team. That includes quarterback Tanner Morgan. After a breakout 2019, Morgan didn’t live up to expectations. He’ll be one of the big factors into whether we see more of 2019 Minnesota or 2020 Minnesota.

Minnesota hosts Ohio State on Sept. 2.
