Minnesota starting running back Treyson Potts left the game against Purdue late in the fourth quarter, and he remains in Indiana after heading into the hospital afterwards.

Here’s the statement sent out from the University of Minnesota on Potts’ status:

“University of Minnesota running back Trey Potts left the field in the fourth quarter of the team’s Oct. 2, 2021, game at Purdue. Potts was immediately observed and treated by the team’s medical staff and was then transported to a hospital for further observation. Director of Athletics Mark Coyle, Head Football Athletic Trainer Mike Sypniak and team physician Dr. David Jewison remained in Indiana overnight on Saturday with Potts. At this time, Potts remains in Indiana with his family and is receiving medical attention. His condition is improving and he is doing well. The University, with the permission of Potts and his family, will provide further updates when they are available.”

Potts scored the game’s only second-half touchdown to help Minnesota record a 20-13 win over Purdue in B1G play in rainy conditions on Saturday afternoon at West Lafayette, Ind. The Gophers running back has taken the place of last season’s B1G Running Back of the Year, Mohamed Ibrahim, who underwent season-ending surgery after being injured during the Gophers season opener against Ohio State.

Details on Potts’ injury have not been released, but the university did say that he remains in Indiana under hospital care and that his “condition is improving and he is doing well.”
