P.J. Fleck wants his team prepared for every single thing on Saturday when Minnesota travels to Iowa City to battle the Hawkeyes. Yes, he even wants them prepared for those pink locker rooms.

On Tuesday, Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press wrote that the Gophers had remodeled the locker room at their practice facility in pink décor to get players ready for the site in the visiting locker room at Kinnick Stadium.

In 1979, then-head coach Hayden Fry had the visiting locker rooms painted pink in a psychological effort to get inside the opponent’s head. The color scheme has lasted nearly 40 years.

“Pink banners, pink everything,” said Minnesota cornerback Kunle Ayinde.

It’s an interesting approach to Saturday’s game, but with the Gophers sitting at 1-3 in conference play right now, Fleck is wanting to do anything he can to try and tally up more wins as the season winds down.

While Iowa presents a lot of problems for the Gophers on Saturday, Minnesota won’t run into any surprises, even those pink locker rooms.
