P.J. Fleck continues to add talent and depth to Minnesota’s 2019 recruiting class.

On Saturday, the Gophers received major recruiting news, landing commitments from Rashad Cheney, a 4-star defensive tackle, and Damarion Williams, a 3-star junior college cornerback. Both players made their announcement official after a visit to campus.

Cheney and Williams announced their decisions via Twitter on Saturday night.

Cheney is one of the top 30 defensive ends in the 2019 recruiting class and was one of the top prospects in SEC country. He had offers from programs like Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU and Georgia Tech.

The 6-foot-2, 270-pound defensive end passed on those opportunities and decided to give his commitment to the Gophers.

Minnesota was one of just two B1G programs to offer Cheney, the other being Penn State. He is the only 4-star player currently committed to Fleck’s 2019 class.

Williams is considered one of the top junior college defensive backs in the 2019 class. He spent last season at Highland Community College in Kansas. He recorded 48 tackles and seven interceptions in the 2018 season.

Minnesota is now up to 23 commits in the 2019 recruiting class. The Gophers ranked 34th nationally and eighth in the B1G.
