A few weeks ago, it was unknown when or if Mike Sherels was going to return to the Minnesota coaching staff. The Gophers linebackers coach battled a serious case of intestinal illness during August, which put him on medical leave for the first part of the season.

But on Saturday, Sherels will be back in action.

The Minnesota assistant is expected to be back on the sidelines for Saturday’s showdown against Iowa.

Keith Jordan had previously been filling in for Sherels as linebackers coach. Sherels underwent several surgeries in August but he recently returned to the facility after regaining strength.

With him back, the Gophers will look to bounce back after a crushing overtime loss at Penn State last week.

The Hawkeyes and Gophers are set for an 11 a.m. CT kickoff in Minneapolis.
