Minnesota suffered a decommitment from its 2024 class on Monday evening as defensive lineman Jide Abasiri announced that he will re-open his recruitment.

“After a long talk and consideration with my family I have decided to decommit from the University of Minnesota,” he wrote. “Thank you to all the coaches at Minnesota for helping and believing [in] me.”

Abasiri, an in-state recruit for P.J. Fleck and his staff, is considered the No. 4 player in Minnesota by 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is also slotted as the No. 65 defensive lineman in the country.

He had been committed to the Golden Gophers program since March 25 and took an official visit there on June 9. However, USC has been very active in his recruitment over the past month, extending an offer to him on Nov. 19. On Friday, Abasiri arrived at USC for an official visit, leading to Monday’s announcement.

The Golden Gophers now have 21 players pledged for the 2024 class after Abasiri’s decommitment.
