Minnesota sent a few messages on Saturday afternoon: one to the B1G, one to haters and one to the College Football Playoff selection committee.

Saturday, The 17th ranked Gophers defeated No. 4 Penn State 31-26 in a thrilling showdown of B1G unbeatens. That was the first marquee victory of the season for P.J. Fleck and company, marking the first time this year Minnesota has knocked off a ranked opponent.

That was the knock against the Gophers in Tuesday’s College Football Playoff rankings. Despite being 8-0, Minnesota sat at the No. 17 spot because of what was deamed as a weak schedule. They hadn’t “played anyone” through the first eight weeks of the season.

When the Gophers defeated the Nittany Lions, the social media team in Minneapolis decided to send a message to the country, and the selection committee.

“Played somebody,” the tweet said, along with the final score from Saturday’s contest.

With the win, Minnesota should move up in the second installment of the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday. But just how much will the Gophers leap? That’s the question.

We’ll find out in a few days. But, for now, the Gophers are enjoying the win and proving all the doubters wrong.
