Minnesota got a chance to give back in its annual Row The Boat Barbeque event where the Gophers participate in activities with patients at Masonic Children’s Hospital. It is a good opportunity for the Golden Gophers to give back to the community.

On Wednesday, Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck talked about the event and introduced two special guests from Masonic Children’s Hospital. It was there that the young patients introduced a special announcement to the football players. The Golden Gophers football team got to see the debut of the new helmets for the 2023 season.

The helmets have changed the design with a non-traditional all-black look with the “M” and the faceguard being the team’s traditional maroon.

Minnesota finished last season with an overall record of 9-4, including a 5-4 record in B1G play. The Gophers finished the season with a 28-20 win over Syracuse in the 2022 Pinstripe Bowl.

The Golden Gophers are predicted to finish in third place in the B1G West behind Wisconsin and Iowa, according to the preseason poll. Their 2023 season kicks off at home versus B1G foe Nebraska on Thursday, Aug. 31.
