Minnesota vs. North Carolina: Line movement sees Gophers become home underdogs
Minnesota and North Carolina are helping kick off Week 1 of the 2024 college football season on Thursday.
PJ Fleck’s Gophers opened as 2.5-point favorites at BetMGM, which wasn’t too surprising for a B1G team playing at home at night. There has been some notable line movement, however. Betting action has made UNC the current favorite at BetMGM. The book will be pulling for the Gophers to cover the 1.5-point spread.
“North Carolina has been a sharp play all the way from underdogs to 1.5-point favorites. Minnesota covering would be great for the sportsbook,” Seamus Magee, Trader Manager, BetMGM said.

At BetMGM, Carolina has a strong majority in the number of bets and the amount of money wagered against the spread. Splits shared Thursday with Saturday Tradition have 67% of tickets (bets) for 62% of the handle (money bet) on the Tar Heels against the Gophers.

Minnesota was -135 as a home favorite at BetMGM, but is now +105 to win straight up as a home underdog. Gophers backers not looking for 1.5 points of help can potentially turn a $100 wager into a $205 payout.
- North Carolina (-125 at BetMGM): 53% bets, 55% handle
- Minnesota (+105 at BetMGM): 47% bets, 45% handle
