Minnesota will be without backup center Matz Stockman in Saturday’s semifinal game against Michigan, according to a report.

The Star Tribune’s Marcus Fuller reported that Stockman will miss the Gophers’ matchup against the Wolverines on Saturday due to a concussion he sustained on Friday night’s game against Purdue. Matz took an inadvertent blow to the head in the second half of the quarterfinal game.

Stockman played just eight minutes against the Boilermakers, grabbing one rebound. The senior center has been a role player for the Gophers this year and is averaging three points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

For Minnesota, Stockman’s absence is a tough loss as Richard Pitino has been using an eight-man rotation. Amir Coffey has played all 85 minutes in the B1G Tournament while Jordan Murphy has been on the floor for 83.

Minnesota reached the semifinal round by winning two games in exciting fashion. On Thursday, the Gophers defeated Penn State 77-72 in overtime. Friday, they upset Purdue 75-73.

With the two wins, Minnesota has likely locked up its spot in the NCAA Tournament. But the Gophers haven’t played in the B1G Tournament Championship Game since 2010 and have never won the tournament title.

Minnesota and Michigan played twice during the regular season, with the Wolverines winning both matchups.
