Minnesota's Casey O'Brien announces he is set to undergo surgery for 'small spot' found by doctors
Many people may not know the name Casey O’Brien. O’Brien is a walk-on placeholder for Minnesota.
He is a four-time cancer survivor and gave a speech during this year’s Big Ten Media Days in July.

O’Brien is a strong individually not just physically, but mentally. What he has had to overcome is something many of us can’t possibly think of. On Monday, he announced that he is ready to undergo his first surgery of the 2019 season:
Ready to go 1-0 in this surgery season! Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. God will continue to take care of me. RTB. #5x pic.twitter.com/8eKHCx0ALo

As O’Brien wrote on Twitter, he has three-month scans, and in the most recent scan, doctors found a small spot in one of his lungs. He is planning on having surgery to remove it this week.
He put it best when he wrote, “My Oar is in the water and I will continue to Row the Boat.” Gopher fans — and every human being in the world — should be able to get behind O’Brien and cheer him on.
