Minnesota is looking to get to 3-0 on the young basketball season, but Loyola Marymount is still hanging around in the second half.

The Gophers started the year with a 30-point win over Green Bay and then beat Loyola Marymount in the first of a two-game set on Saturday. That game turned into a 15-point win, but Monday’s game has been much tighter.

It was one fastbreak bucket early in the second half that allowed Minnesota to stretch the lead to nine points. A solid double team near the sideline forced a turnover with the Gophers racing out into a 3-on-2 fastbreak.

It was perfectly executed as Jarvis Omersa put an exclamation point on the fastbreak with this jam:

Unfortunately, this one is far from over. Minnesota has never been able to pull away as the teams hit the under 10-minute mark with the Gophers ahead by three points. Since then, Loyola Marymount has tied and taken a brief lead as the teams battle back-and-forth down the stretch.
