Minnesota was riddled with injuries this season at the RB position. Mohamed Ibrahim and Trey Potts were injured early in the season, but the Golden Gophers had players step at the position.

Most notably, Ky Thomas, the Gophers’ leading rusher this season. Thomas, on Monday morning, announced he is entering the transfer portal.

Some may find this a surprise, but if the RBs ahead of him in Ibrahim and Potts stay healthy, he is likely the Gophers’ third option in most cases.

This season for the Gophers, Thomas carried the ball 166 times, rushing for 824 yards, on 5 yards per carry and 6 touchdowns.

The Gophers  finished strong with an 18-6 Guaranteed Rate Bowl win over West Virginia. They finished the season with a 9-4 record.

P.J. Fleck and company will want to carry the momentum into the 2022 season as they have a lot of stars on the offensive side of the ball and can make a serious run at the B1G West crown.

The Gophers open the 2022 season against the New Mexico State Aggies on Thursday Sept. 1 2022.
