Minnesota senior makes award for himself
If you know Minnesota punter/holder Peter Mortell, you know that he had one goal for 2015.
It was a Heisman Trophy. Really. Go search #MortellForHeisman on Twitter.
Unfortunately for Mortell, it doesn’t appear that his Heisman Trophy dreams will be a reality in his final year at Minnesota. He actually didn’t repeat the first-team All-B1G honor he earned in 2014.
So what did Mortell do? He made his own award, of course.
"Your hands are too slow" they said.
"Your cadence has no rhythm" they said. This one's for the state of Minnesota. pic.twitter.com/HkgGRK0aL1— Peter Mortell (@PMortell1) December 1, 2015
The former walk-on wide receiver might have a case. Kicker Ryan Santoso was 15-of-19 this season and he made all 30 of his extra point attempts. More importantly, he didn’t have a botched snap all year.
Mortell did receive national recognition for his holding abilities.
Congrats to Minnesota punter @PMortell37 for winning the (self-created) Holder of the Year award.

Ok, maybe it was just a tweet from SportsCenter.
Still, you can bet that if “Holder of the Year” was a real thing, Mortell would have quite the case.
