P.J. Fleck was willing to accept all responsibility for Minnesota’s 53-28 loss to Nebraska on Saturday afternoon. He also paid a huge compliment to Scott Frost.
The Gophers had no answer for the Huskers’ offense. Adrian Martinez beat Minnesota threw the air and on the ground, Stanley Morgan Jr. made huge plays and Devine Ozigbo was a force in the rushing attack. It culminated in a 659-yard performance for Nebraska.
Fleck commended Frost and his staff on the game-plan.
“These guys are really good coaches, you think those guys don’t know that?” Fleck said. “You think Scott Frost didn’t know that? Did you see how their runs were designed to funnel to certain people? That’s how you do it as a coach. I got outcoached.”
After the loss, Fleck also said that he believes the Huskers are a lot better than their record indicates. With the weapons offensively, they should be contending for bowl eligibility.
“I said at the beginning of the week this team (Nebraska) should be 5-1, 4-2,” Fleck said. “They’ve lost on some real strange oddity-type plays. They’re very dangerous on offense, which everybody got a chance to see. Talk about No. 2, talk about the two wideouts, talk about the running back. We didn’t stop them tonight at all. We didn’t come close to stopping them. We didn’t tackle well. We didn’t set an edge.”
Nebraska earned its first win of the season with the win over the Gophers.
Minnesota has to regroup quickly, hosting Indiana on Friday night. The Gophers are still winless in B1G play this season and are 3-4 overall. The Hoosiers enter the game on a three-game losing streak.
Friday’s game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.
