Minnesota is looking to cap a memorable season with one more win in its bowl game.

Despite missing out on the B1G Championship, the Golden Gophers have already put together a memorable 2019 season. With a 10-2 record, Minnesota has won 10 games for the first time since 2003 and will look to win back-to-back bowl games for the first time since 2015-16.

On Sunday, the team received word that the destination would be the Outback Bowl against a ranked SEC opponent in Auburn. When asked about the bowl game, head coach P.J. Fleck said it will be a nice way to celebrate a historic season with the Gopher seniors:

“This been a tremendous season, especially for our seniors,” said Fleck. “This is a tremendous way to be able to go out and celebrate. It’s a historic season, it’s a season that really restored our traditions here at the University of Minnesota, so it needs to be celebrated.”

He also took time to give a quick preview of the Tigers. Fleck admitted it’s an unbelievable opponent that the Gophers get to face, highlighting the fact that Auburn’s losses came to top-10 teams:

“Well, you’re playing an unbelievable opponent in Auburn,” explained Fleck. “You look at who they played, they lost to three top-10 teams, that’s their only three losses…they’ve done a lot of really special things, so we’ve got a huge opponent.”

Minnesota on BTN shared the video of Fleck’s reaction and early preview for the contest:

The Outback Bowl is slated to kick off on New Year’s Day at 1 pm EST. Coverage will be on ESPN.
