Minnesota starts the year 1-0 for the second straight season in the P.J. Fleck era, as the Gophers made quick work of New Mexico State in a 48-10 victory on Thursday night.

The Gophers had a solid performance from true freshman walk-on quarterback Zack Annexstad, who completed 16-of-33 passes for 220 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Running back Rodney Smith also had a huge day, rushing for 153 yards on 24 carries.

It was also a nice outing for the Minnesota defense, which allowed just 271 yards, holding the Aggies to a paltry 38 yards on the ground.
