During Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck’s weekly radio appearance on KFAN 100.3 Sports Radio, he was talking about multi-sport athletes and shared the following specific to how he and his staff at Minnesota recruit and their philosophy on building a roster.

“90 percent of the people that we recruit, we want to play multiple sports,” Fleck said. “There are times where we won’t recruit a kid, just because he doesn’t play another sport. We want multi-sport athletes. I’m not saying we won’t, a lot of quarterbacks specialize these days, I get that, but again, I want athletes that play multiple positions.”

Whether or not that you agree with Fleck’s method of recruiting, it is an interesting way to go about and build a roster. It will also be interesting to see if it works out for the Golden Gophers.
