PJ Fleck has seen his share of quality football teams. He has even coached a few throughout his career as a head coach, but this year’s Michigan team is on another level.

Saturday night, Fleck led Minnesota into a matchup against Jim Harbaugh’s program, but the outcome was not in question for very long. By the time the final whistle blew, the Wolverines had piled up 52 points with a defense that outscored Minnesota on the heels of a pair of pick-6s.

After the game, Fleck was nearly at a loss of words to describe Michigan, but he did label the team as the most talented group he’s faced in 11 years as a head coach.

“They’re as good as advertised,” said Fleck with an uneasy chuckle. “I said this a minute ago on the radio, I think they’re the best football team I’ve seen in 11 years as a head coach. I’ve never seen a football team like that, that deep. I’m not sure if this is true, but I was told this walking off the field. I think they traveled 75 people, maybe played like 74 of them. I don’t know.

“They’re one of the deepest teams, one of the best teams, one of the biggest teams, strongest teams, fastest teams and they do not make mistakes. They are truly like a boa constrictor and they do not beat themselves.”

As for the rest of the performance, Fleck noted there were times Michigan did things “at will” against the Gophers. The head coach shouldered the blame for the loss but noted Minnesota was simply beat in every facet of the game.

“There were times they did it at will tonight. No. 1, falls on me, 100%. They’re a really good football team though so you can’t take that away from them,” Fleck explained. “We got beat tonight, period. We didn’t ‘lose’ the game tonight, they beat us. Period. In every facet of the game. Every aspect of the game. Offense, defense and special teams.”

Minnesota is now 3-3 on the season and heading to a bye week in search of getting healthy and finding a spark. The Gophers will return to action in Week 8 with a trip to face Iowa.
