P.J. Fleck understands why Iowa has only lost one game this season.

He went into detail at his weekly press conference. He noted how Iowa’s last game against Wisconsin was a good example of the program’s formula for success. The defense and special teams once again played a huge role in the win.

Fleck has figured out Iowa’s formula. The Hawkeyes have excelled at being efficient, using special teams to flip the field, and have done well on defense in true Kirk Ferentz fashion.

“That was a prime example last weekend against Wisconsin of exactly who Iowa is. They’re very efficient, they don’t turn the ball over. Their special teams are a huge factor in how they win. I mean, a huge factor,” said Fleck. “Their special teams don’t get enough credit and their defense is one of the best defenses in the country. They have a formula and they do it really well.”

The Hawkeyes have not lost a game since the shutout loss to Penn State in September. It’s not hard to see why Iowa wins close games time and time again.

It could be another tough, defensive football game Saturday as the Hawkeyes welcome the Golden Gophers to Kinnick.

Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
