PJ Fleck takes mayo bath after Minnesota wins Duke’s Mayo Bowl
PJ Fleck can never be accused of not being a showman.
The 44-year-old who’s been the Minnesota head coach since 2017 is now 6-0 in bowl games there after Friday night’s 24-10 victory over Virginia Tech in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte. He’s also a rock-solid 58-39 during his time at Minnesota.
That’s all well and good. But did you see Fleck the showman after Friday night’s win on national TV as he basked in a mayo bath that’s become the deliciously sloppy tradition at the annual bowl game?
Fleck took the punishment like a champ, because his gritty team was the Duke’s Mayo Bowl champ, after all. He also got a hearty hug from the Golden Gophers mascot after the bucket of mayo was dumped on him, with a lot of it getting on his shirt and who knows where else.

Fleck also had an incredible reaction to the reveal that Flava Flav was inside the Duke’s Mayo mascot all night.

“It’s Flava Flav!” Fleck yelled. “Holy crap!”

It was all part of the postgame show, as Minnesota finished the 2024 season with a bang and also recorded its 8th straight bowl victory overall. Three second-quarter touchdowns were the difference for Fleck’s team, which shut out the Hokies in the second half in cruising to yet another bowl win and earning that tasty mayo bath.
